Frontier International Shipping Corp., Lafayette, CA, USA was previously Kaiser International Shipping. As such the company was formed in 1968 and placed large order of bulkcarriers and combination carriers with the various main shipyards in Japan. In 1970, Frontier Shipping Company was formed as a joint venture company between NYK of Tokyo and Kaiser Steel Corp. From the beginning the company was commissioned to carry the bulk raw materials produced by the various Kaiser companies around the world, like coal from Robert Bank, Kaiser Resources Ltd (KRL), bauxite and alumina for Kaiser Aluminium, ore for Hamersley Iron of Australia (Dampier), gypsum and cement for Kaiser Cement & Gypsum etc. Kaiser Shipping was particularly involved in the early stages of coal export from Roberts Bank, which was owned and built by Kaiser. In 1982, Frontier became independent from Kaiser, however continued to act as the chartering arm as well as chartering brokers for Kaiser in addition to other steel and raw material producers / traders. At times Frontier also acts as charterers themselves to cover cargoes for and on behalf of clients who are not actively involved in shipping/chartering but have a specific need for raw materials - mainly in and out of the US/Mexcio West Coast area, as well as Metallergical Coke and Petrolium Coke in and out of China. In addition to the MetCoke and PetCoke these cargoes are principaly Coal / Gypsum / Bauxite / Cement / Iron Ore / Phosrock-ferts as well as steel products. For the cargoes that Frontier controls the company does not speculate on the freight market, nor act as an "operator", except for an occational T/C trip or round voyage. Frontier have charterered ships on voyage or t/c from various well know owners like: Bocimar-CMB / Klaveness/ MOSK / Zodiac / NYK / Jebsen / Gearbulk / WBC / Star Shipping / Eitzen / Norden / Cosco / Sinochart / North China Lines / Transfield / Goldbeam / Cobelfret / HMM / Hanjin / Korea Line / Bulk Shipping / Fednav / PCL Sinagpore / Cosbulk / Swissmarine and many other well known first class shipowning companies.
